Acknowledgements

Commitment to Action 2014–2015 was prepared with the invaluable assistance of numerous organizations and individuals who are committed to expanding access to voluntary, rights-based family planning. We thank our partners around the world whose work has shaped and informed this report.

We are sincerely grateful for the continued support of our core conveners: the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the UK Department for International Development, the United Nations Population Fund, and the United States Agency for International Development. We also deeply appreciate the leadership, partnership, and supportive environment provided by the United Nations Foundation to the FP2020 initiative.

We owe a special debt of gratitude to our colleagues at Track20, particularly Emily Sonneveldt and Michelle Weinberger, for their contributions to our measurement section and data analysis throughout the report. Our colleagues at Countdown 2015 Europe and the Kaiser Family Foundation also contributed important sections to this report, and we thank them for their analysis and insight. We also thank Dr. Josephine Kibaru-Mbae, director general of the National Council for Population and Development in Kenya, Dr. Gado Agarassi Napo-Koura, Secretary General at the Ministry of Health in Togo, and Suzanne Ehlers, president and CEO of PAI, for contributing thoughtful essays that broaden and enrich the dialogue.

We would like to express our warm thanks to UNFPA Nepal, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and the Family Planning Association of Nepal for graciously hosting FP2020 in Kathmandu and Sindhuli, Nepal. The team is grateful to the staffs of the Sitalpati Health Post, the Kapan Community Clinic, and the Female Friendly Space in Bungamati, whose commitment and dedication are improving the health, wellbeing, and empowerment of women and girls in their communities.

Our special gratitude goes to the Rapid Response Mechanism grantees who battled time zone differences to accommodate our interview requests: Maricar “Chi” Laigo Vallido of the Forum for Family Planning and Development in the Philippines; Inne Silviane and Dini Haryati of Yayasan Cipta Cara Padu (YCCP) in Indonesia; and Martha Momba of the Visual Hearing Impairment Membership Association (VIHEMA) in Malawi.

FP2020 Commitment to Action 2014–2015 was written by Suzanne Scoggins, Kelly Dudine, Nina Miller, Erika Studt, and Lauren Wolkoff, with input from too many collaborators to mention. We would like to express our most sincere gratitude to the team at Hybrid Design for their partnership and flexibility in preparing both this website and the print version of our report. Prashant Panjiar who traveled with the FP2020 team to Nepal and India, and Mark Naftalin, who traveled to Liberia, contributed many of the eloquent photographs that illustrate this report. We also thank Claire Manibog for her skill and artistry in data visualization.

Finally, our deepest appreciation goes to the champions in each country—the service providers, health system workers, civil society advocates, donor partners, and government leaders—who are working tirelessly and bravely to bring empowering, lifesaving family planning to women and girls.

This report is dedicated in loving memory to Valerie DeFillipo (1951–2015), a lifelong advocate for women and girls and a treasured colleague and friend.
